influential artists of the 21st century Shepard Fairey. He is a leader in the Urban art movement and drew inspiration from artist like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Shepard Fairey was born on February 15, 1970 in Charleston, SC. Fairey became involved with art in 1984, when he started to place his drawings on skateboards and T-shirts. He became a contemporary graphic designer and illustrator after emerging from the skateboarding scene. Shepard Fairey shot to national fame as the graphic artist behind a 2008 iconic poster of a Barack Obama portrait labeled simply “HOPE”.
