About the artist:
(1898 – 1986) Southern New Jersey check out FTIgallery.com’s Modern art works from artist Henry Moore. Henry was born on July 30, 1898 in Castleford, Yorkshire and became the most celebrated sculptor of his time. In 1926 he held his first one man show and his second in 1931. Moore, though reluctant to join any stylistic grouping, was more interested in Surrealism, and showed at the International Exhibition of Surrealist Art held in London in 1936. This was also the year in which his work was first seen in the USA: he was included in an exhibition entitled Cubism and Abstract Art, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Moore then began to shift from direct carving to the modeling he had once despised after a brief illness. He was best known for his semi-abstract monumental bronze sculptures which are located around the world as public works of art. Henry Moore died on August 31, 1986.
